US Open

It has admittedly been a few years since I had great success in the US Open - two of the biggest winning weeks ever though I actually didn't have the winner! I have retold the story of the "Battle of Wounded Knee" from 2008 many a time when Tiger Woods beat Rocco Mediate using just one leg. I was "stranded" on holiday having placed the bets before leaving for the Isles of Scilly on Rocco - a whole host of different markets including without Tiger thankfully. I would leave lays up by using the only computer internet available in the Tourism Office and would follow scoring on good old Ceefax. It all turned out well in the end with a nice five figure win on the playoff loser. Four years later and again on holiday in Cornwall (we never travelled far back then!) I put up Michael Thompson who was First Round leader @ 250/1 - he won that by three shots and eventually finished tied 2nd behind Simpson - again plenty of winning bets so as you can imagine it's an event I love to have a little crack on. It's been a bit sparse since then though I did win a few quid on Matt Fitzpatrick two years ago @ Brookline who wasn't totally under the radar having won the US Amateur on the course back in 2013. Interestingly he is the one who has sparked some interest for me for next weeks renewal @ Pinehurst. When he won the US Amateur he got a few invites the following year - not least playing the US Open here - he shot 71 73 78 69 to claim Low Amateur honours and finish t48th - not bad with that poor third round. Prior to that he played @ Harbour Town finishing a very respectable 23rd as an Amateur - of course he won there last year. Add in a 71 81 missed cut @ Bay Hill where he had every chance to win in 2019 before finishing 2nd and hopefully you can see where I am going!! I wouldn't say he has been in the best form this year bar a 5th in the Players but he strikes me as a player who thrives on positive memories including repeat wins @ Crans so why not a repeat US Open win on a course he must have fond memories of ten years on? I will be honest his High Street price isn't exceptional but @ around 70 on Betfair I've happily had a few quid on win only.
